My Pamper Routine & Why it’s Non-negotiable

brighten and even skin tone with jojoba and turmeric face mask

When the days are long and full of to-do’s, I’m guilty of not taking time for myself and by the way, nearly all of my days are jammed packed. After a couple weeks, I finally embrace the seemingly unimportant activities that I’ve been putting off and something amazing happens. I feel better. Dedicating an evening to relaxation and treating myself makes me feel like a new and refreshed little lady, who is ready to kick ass.

Recently, I’ve finally realized that “me time” is just as valuable as work time, and actually it makes work time better because I’m not distracted by little things like my unsightly chipped manicure as I type, or how dull and dry my skin is because I can’t remember the last time I did a mask. No, not everyone needs to have polished nails or do a face mask weekly, but if it makes you feel better, you do. Furthermore, you need to do it and not feel guilty about it. I often catch myself thinking it’s silly and a waste of time, but once done, I never regret it. Give yourself permission to do those things that may not make sense, but make you feel better because when you feel better, you do better.

My Pamper Routine Favorites

For me, skincare is probably at the top of my favorite ways to pamper myself. I love to do face masks. Sometimes, I’ll even do two back to back because I’m wild.

Turmeric is amazing for calming inflammation, reducing hyperpigmentation and  brightening and evening your complexion. I mix it with jojoba oil for a quick treatment that packs a punch. While I highly recommend it, please be aware it will stain and requires a bit of effort to wash off. That can make it a little drying, which is why I love to follow up with a serious dose of hydration, such as the Gingsen Collagen Boost mask from 100% Pure. When I double up on masks, I wake up the next morning with the calmest happiest skin.

Don’t forget about hair masks! I apply a generous amount of any of my Shea Moisture conditioners or coconut oil and let it work its magic for a few hours or even all night. Clean hair is always great, but when it’s extra soft and silky? Amazing.

If you saw this post, you know I had to say goodbye to my long nails and it was tragic. I love a good manicure nonetheless. There’s just something about it that makes me feel put together and like any rings I wear are extra beautiful.

Maybe you know this already, but I learned a tip to making your manicure last longer, so I want to pass it along. Leave a small gap at the bottom of your nail between the colored polish and your skin. Then, apply a topcoat over the entire nail, so the colored polish is completely sealed in. Easy and effective!

I really enjoy yin yoga. It’s all about slow movement and holding poses for a couple of minutes to really sink into the stretches. It releases any tensions and leaves you feeling more in tune with your body and just SO good. It may not be the first thing that comes to mind for a pamper evening, but it’s a worthy addition.

Lastly, I think it’s important to do something just for fun. Whether it’s watching a film, playing a game or crafting, having an activity that makes all of life’s stresses seem far away is a must. It’s like a mini vacation for your brain and who doesn’t love vacation?

Are you guilty of never taking time for yourself? I’m sure it’s something most of us struggle with. Let me know what your ways to treat yourself are in the comments!
