What. A. Week. I really wasn’t anticipating this week to be absolutely overwhelming and draining. This weekend has been all about recharging because I just had to stop and regroup. The to-do list can wait until Monday! I hope you all get some time to relax this weekend too. Since I’m happily cozied up and will be making the tastiest vegetable stew later, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to tell you why I enjoy fall so much. I know the internet goes crazy for pumpkins and cozy vibes, but for me, autumn used to be a bit of a sad time.
As soon as the leaves began to fall, I’d just feel a little down. Summer and its long warm days were gone and all I could think about was the approaching winter. Yes, the holidays are fun and snow looks pretty for the first month, but the short overcast days, bitter cold, and icy conditions from November to April? Not so much. It seems silly now that I’d be dreading winter just as fall set in, but that’s really what I did.
Then two years ago I realized I had to quit the sulking. I was just creating a reason to be sad and that’s not healthy. I knew I had to find to shift my focus from the looming winter and enjoy what was at hand. To embrace the present, I started by making a Pinterest board where I saved all the cutest pumpkin patch and black kitten pictures. This simple exercise made me appreciate how warm and cozy (and spooky) this time of year is. I should have called this post “How Pinterest Changed My Life” or something. Missed opportunity.
It’s easy to not enjoy the present because you’re so consumed by what the future may bring. I’m so guilty of slipping into this mindset and maybe you are too. Now I make the most of autumn because whether I enjoy it or not, winter will follow. I can’t change the seasons, so I might as well embrace what they have to offer. Of course, this applies to so much more and I’ve enlisted this technique over the last week and even right now. I know I’m going to be one busy bee the next two weeks, but right now, I’m going to enjoy my weekend and do my best to not worry about it.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and make the most of today.
