It’s been a minute. Actually it’s been several weeks, but I am finally back! Though it is comically late to share my February favorites, I think it’s a good way to get back into the swing of things and you guys seem to enjoy these posts. Of course, I’ll also be sharing why I disappeared from the internet and what I’ve been up to offline. It’s going to be a ramble, so get ready.
February was gone in a flash, but honestly I don’t mind if these last winter months zip by. Surely, I’m not the only one that’s so over the snow and cold. My already sensitive skin is put to the test this time of year, so I was happy to receive the Zabana Essentials tamanu calendula face balm in my Petit Vour box. This little wonder tackles acne, redness, scars, dermatitis, fine lines and wrinkles while providing hydration. Talk about a cure-all! I apply a pea sized amount after my moisturizer in the evening to give my skin the extra help it needs. It’s only been a couple of weeks, but so far it’s helped to keep my skin hydrated and clear blemishes faster. When your skin is dry but acne prone or you have any irritation like dermatitis, it seems like when you try to cure one problem, you exacerbate another. With this balm, you don’t have to worry. I highly suggest trying it out if you have any kind of upset or irritated skin, or if you’re just a skincare junkie. I happen to fall into both categories.
I can’t remember the last time I bought nail polish, but when 100 Percent Pure does 5 for $25, it was time to stock up. I believe they are discontinuing their nail polishes, so if you’re a manicure lover, get your hands on them while you can. The formula is quite thin but offers opaque color and the dry time isn’t painstaking. I’m really impressed with the formula, so if 100 Percent Pure decides to keep them around, I’ll be purchasing more. I picked up the shades Velouria and Velveteen because I’m obsessed with pinky nude nails along with Truffle, Popsicle and Mardi Gras for a little more fun. I also recommend their base coat. Simply put, it’s amazing.
Speaking of 100 Percent Pure, have you watched their livestreams? You can catch them every Thursday night at 7 p.m. EST on Instagram. Every week they feature different products or ingredients, so it’s nice to learn more about them, but I’m really there for Susie Wang. She is so knowledgable about product formulation. I’ve learned a ton about how their products are made, how ingredients are sourced and processed, and most importantly why. I enjoy the scientific side of green beauty just as much as the pretty aspects, so I always tune in. I’d love to know if any of you watch too.
I meant to include Schmidt’s deodorant in my January faves, but it slipped my mind. Natural deodorants are tough and I’ve been struggling to find one that ticks all the boxes. The Cedarwood and Juniper Schmidt’s deodorant is the best I’ve found so far. It actually lasts and even survives anxiety sweat (which means business). My only complaint is the texture. It’s very dry and a little gritty, so it’s not the most pleasant to apply, but I’m willing compromise. I know a lot of people are sensitive to baking soda and will get painful reactions, myself included, but for some reason this doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m not questioning it.
Where I’ve Been
Though it’s not particularly exciting, the truth is I’ve just been busy. My life felt chaotic, or perhaps more aptly said my mind was chaotic. The winter months are always extra tough. It’s hard to not feel depressed when there’s only bitter cold and gray. As most of you know, I’m also a student and in short, the last few courses of my degree aren’t messing around. Of course, there have been other happenings, both good and bad, that took up a lot of my time. I do have some random photos from the last month, so there will be a little recap on my Instagram stories since I haven’t been posting there either! I practically fell off the earth.
I truly enjoy blogging, so my absence wasn’t a lack of passion. While other priorities grew, it just felt like another task to be completed and it wasn’t fun anymore. For the first time, I ran out of ideas for new posts and the whole process felt forced. Rather than muddle my way through, I took a step back and I think it was the right decision. Honestly, I’m not sure where to go from here. Of course, I’ll still be blogging, but for now I only can promise one post a week on Sundays. If all goes well, I can bring you another post midweek, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself! Keep your eye out for me on Sundays.
One last note, I swear. Recently, Rose Recast reached 300 followers, so thank you to everyone old and new! I appreciate every single one of you who take the time to read what I have to say and interact with me. If you have a blog, link it in the comments, so I can show you some love too. Talk to you next week.
