Another month has gone by and now that I’m pausing for reflection, I’ve realized a lot has happened in the last few weeks. Along the way, I’ve discovered a few things I want to share, so today let’s chat about what I’ve been up to and what I’ve been loving.
It should come as no surprise that I’m still a slave the glowy no-makeup makeup. My last blog post, a review of the 100% Pure luminous primer, attests to that. My everyday makeup doesn’t change often, but I do like to switch out my go to lip color. You know, instead of pink, I’ll go for a pinky nude- big changes. I used to be in a very committed relationship to the Au Naturale Eternity Lipstick in innocence. I even featured it back in my October favorites. I didn’t fall out of love, but I just stopped reaching for it. A couple of weeks ago I picked it up again and paired it with the Clove + Hallow Lip Glaze in angelic. The lipstick on its own has a beautiful slightly lavender sheen, but the gloss takes the shine up a notch. For me, it’s strikes the balance of pink and nude.
Unlike other natural lipsticks I’ve tried, Au Naturale has a distinctive firm texture and drier formula. Personally, I like this because it’s less likely to smear than its creamy counterpart and it doesn’t feel as heavy when paired with a gloss. If you’re sold, Au Naturale has a sale this weekend, so it’s a great time to pick one up.
I’ve never been a fan of face wipes. Even in my conventional beauty days, I didn’t use them, so when the Ursa Major Essential Face Wipes came in a Petit Vour box, I put them in a drawer, not knowing when I would pull them out again. And then something kind of terrible happened.
First, a couple great things happened. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree and less than two weeks later I got a job that’s perfect for me. Needless to say, things were going pretty swimmingly. Then on the second day of my new job, I woke up with the stomach flu (after I haven’t been sick in literal years) and was off for three days. Not so perfect. You know I was sick because regardless of how tired I am, I always do my skincare routine, but there was no way it was happening. Ursa Major came to the rescue and I was able to do a basic routine from bed using their wipes. I was surprised just how clean and refreshed my skin felt. It kept my skin from freaking out like it usually would when I’m under the weather or stressed and for that I am very thankful.
Of course, I still do get breakouts from time to time, so to cut down on healing time I’ve been using the Goldfaden MD Facial Detox. It’s actually a mask, but I prefer to use it as a spot treatment as my skin is on the drier side. I apply just enough to cover any spots before bed and it helps to clear blemishes faster without drying out my skin. I received this mini in a Petit Vour box and though I won’t repurchase the full size, I do like it and think anyone with acne prone normal to oily skin would really enjoy it.
On the fashion front, I may have a new addition to my wardrobe that I’m loving. The Everlane straight leg crop is what I’ve been searching for. Trousers that can be business casual, thrown on with a t-shirt on the weekend, look good with everything and perhaps most importantly, just as comfortable as jeans. I have Everlane store credit, so don’t be surprised I’m soon wearing them in another color because honestly, I don’t want to take them off.
Along with those trousers, I’ve been reaching black and white patterned tops a lot this month, as evidenced by my Instagram feed. I’m not sure why this happened, but I’m not mad about it. Sometimes you can’t beat the classics.
I have no book to share this month. I was keeping up with a book a month pretty easily, but it just slipped. Oh, I do have one more happening to share. A couple of weeks ago, I finally went back to therapy and I already know that it was the right move for me. If you’re thinking about going to therapy, I highly suggest that you do. There’s no harm in trying it.
That’s it for August! As always if you wrote an August favorites post or have any recommendations for me, please leave them in the comments. I’d love to chat.
